Stringer Stairs
The first historical stairs made of wood were stringer stairs. These are still available today in various forms. There is the mortised stringer staircase and the saddled stringer staircase, as well as a combination of the two. The main difference is that the mortised stringer design has treads that are inset into the stringer -whereas in the saddled design, the treads lay on top of the stringer.
